Empathy by the Bucket

We teamed up with Heart n Soul to create this public mural, which highlights the ideas, creativity and talents of people with learning disabilities.

During the first lockdown of 2020, we conducted six online workshops with Heart n Soul artists and arts facilitator, Ben Connors. These sessions were playful, imaginative and insightful.

The group’s ambition for the mural was that it would be sunny, inclusive and uplifting – they wanted to express a sense of togetherness.

Painting the mural

Our aim has been to give them an opportunity to express their points of view and ways of being in a public environment, while giving Deptford a chance to reflect on how it perceives disabilities.

We were supported by 20 volunteers who donated their time to help us prepare the wall and paint the mural. While we were at it, we also restored the Old Bank and gave it new vibrant colors.
