Political Swing

‘Political Swing’ is a strange mix of a satirical, political and conceptual artwork. It follows a series of interventions on trees, something we’ve explored over the years.

We responded to a call from the Argentine Embassy for their Open House Weekend in September 2016. They wanted both British and Argentinian born artists to enter into dialogue through interventions to a wonderful Listed Grade II Belgrave Villa on 49 Belgrave Square. Built by Thomas Cubitt, the building had been the Official Residence to the Argentine Ambassador since 1936.

Since our heart is on the streets, we chose a majestic tree as our canvas. The magnified ship rope hung from a branch twelve meters high, the seat itself unreachable.

Both the elite who frequent the balcony and ordinary passers-by on the street were offered a string; giving them a chance to pull the Political Swing their way.
