Bursting with Life

As part our ongoing conversation with people in Deptford, we asked Addey and Stanhope students how they wanted to develop our streetscape. We focussed on themes that they felt represented their lives, feelings and likes.

When asked how they felt about themselves, they threw around words like scattered, unorganised, confused, fluorescent, psychedelic, original and cartoony.

Working during the first lockdown, we came up with the idea of a wardrobe that was exploding with their things - shoes, colourful clothes and trainers, even pieces of fried chicken and a giant apple. We played with dynamic shapes and bright colours that resembled graffiti.

We are proud of how this piece truly represents the feelings of young people, who are not often heard when it comes to public spaces.
