Every Human Needs a Home

We were commissioned by Lewisham Homes to engage local community groups in the creation of a new piece to be installed on this hoarding while new homes were being built.

We started developing ideas during the summer of 2019, running workshops with Homeless people from the 999 Club in Deptford and with children from the nearby Beecroft Garden Primary School to produce this participatory artwork. We focussed on exploring the things that make us feel at home, and the things we would miss most if we lost that home.

The phrase ‘every human needs a home’ was the poignant contribution of one of the people we worked with, who was themselves homeless. The children responded to this central theme by focusing on how important it is, when at home, to love our pets, to be united, and to be ourselves.

Looking through the lenses, you can see artwork made by the children, which give us a real sense of warmth and tenderness.
