El Cheap 'ou - Trilogy

The first of this trilogy was painted in 2013, we returned to this artwork a year later in true mongering spirit. The murals on both sides were paid for through bartering and painted with recycled household paint.

The center piece is an homenaje to John Price, a sort of Robin Hood of Deptford. The image is a riddle, meant to produce uncertainly. Is that what I think it is?

El Cheap 'Ou

In 2017, as part of Deptford X, to the right of El Cheap‘Ou came Ghost Ship. Painted with invisible ink (anti-ultraviolet varnish) the drawing depicting a transparent ship rigging. It becomes visible when the light hits it from the right angle and over the years, the sun will fade the background colour.

Last came Hooked. Much like the fisherman who is always looking to make a catch, market traders and bargain hunters, and, yes, even street artists must bide their time. Hang around with a tall ladder and a load of paint and it will pay off eventually. The Cobbler saw what we were doing and asked us to carry on leftward, onto their storefront, which hadn’t been painted for over 40 years! We were happy to improvise there and then.
